Independent restaurants rarely have room to experiment.  Every decision carries weight. Investing in sustainability, workforce support, or new operating models often means taking on risk without a safety net.

Forty independent restaurants and bars across the country have received $25,000 through the IRC and Chase Innovator Awards — $1 million in total — to support the practices they are already building into their businesses.

These are restaurants investing in:

  • Zero-waste kitchens and lower-carbon menus
  • Stronger supply chains rooted in local sourcing
  • Childcare and leadership development for their teams
  • Community programming and cultural preservation
  • Business models designed for long-term resilience

There is no single profile of a winner. They span rural towns and major cities. They represent a wide range of cuisines, ownership structures, and histories. Some are neighborhood fixtures. Others are newer concepts carving out space in their communities with care and intention.

The ideas recognized through the IRC and Chase Innovator Awards are not abstract or aspirational. They are practical, lived commitments, shaped day by day in kitchens, dining rooms, and communities across the country.

Independent restaurants make up the majority of the restaurant industry, yet they rarely have access to capital that supports long-term investments in their people and communities. These grants recognize and strengthen the important work already happening inside independent kitchens and dining rooms across the country.

We extend our sincere thanks to every restaurant that took the time to apply and share their work. The generosity, thoughtfulness, and quiet ambition reflected in these submissions speak to an industry guided by purpose and pride. We are honored to celebrate this year’s recipients, and grateful to Chase for helping make this moment of recognition possible.
