'No Tax on Tips' is well intentioned but Congress cannot pass this legislation as written. Tax breaks shouldn't stop at the kitchen door. Chefs, dishwashers, and porters deserve relief, too," said Erika Polmar, Executive Director of the Independent Restaurant Coalition. "Independent restaurants are already dealing with rising costs and reduced revenue from customers less likely to dine out. As written, this bill rewards restaurants who rely on tipping to pay some of their workforce and ignores the growing number who choose to use service charges to fairly compensate the majority of their team. This  change will be costly for a restaurant to implement and ultimately raise prices for their customers.  Hundreds of business owners in nearly every state and many economists across the country have been asking the Senate to make commonsense changes to ensure their entire workforce gets a break, not just servers. Congress should listen."
